I’d say it was ironic that Jeff Bezos, who made his first fortune selling books would do this, but really he is just confirming everything anyone said about him. Slop incarnate

Right? So it was never about the books and will never be 💔

Dropping a note here to encourage non-paid subscribers to upgrade. The Metropolitan Review has a very ambitious mission and has been hitting it out of the park. If you miss the days of exciting, nuanced writing and reviews that does not begin and end with politics, this is the good news you've been waiting for.

I feel like you get something for your subscription. You're not just making a donation.

Hello!! I'm excited to receive the first print edition... hopefully. How do I know if the address you have is the correct one? I've moved a few times in the past few years.

I have always been an avid reader. Maybe even voracious. My kids are less so. My grandkids, teenagers now, even less. General reading habits are changing, for a variety of reasons, but I am still happy to support publications like this one. We can at least keep exploring the world of books ourselves, and at least slow the declining trend. Maybe when AI magically gives workers all 20 hour work weeks, still at full salaries, them youngsters will turn to reading to fill some leisure time.

BTW - just got my print edition in the mail - yay!!!

Knowledge is a threat.

Poetry helps people find truth.

And the simple solitude of reading a book gives people confidence to be alone and think for themselves.

Art is of no use to tyranny.

What do you mean we get access to all the print issues? Will you mail them? And outside the US or just US? Very much supportive but need a bit more clarity.

Let me know if you'd like me to reach out to Michael Dirda. I just saw him last month.
