The unforgiving mirror is a great image. Martin Amis said that youth ends in the mirror: that moment when a person no longer recognises themselves as young, whatever other people may already see.
So the television becomes something cruel here, doesn’t it? It mocks our main character with an image of memory, of desire . His “fallen angel” becomes a remembered - what? - shrine, to youth and lust, something to be constantly looked at and longed for.
Excellent story. Both funny (opening line) and heartbreaking (final line). The last line surprised me—the narrator becomes totally unreliable. It took me less than ten minutes to read. Very hard to accomplish so much in so little. Kudos.

"These are things you keep to yourself." Really strong piece.

Secure people needn’t worry about who their partners find attractive or had sex with in the past.
